MANILA, July 27, 2011— A Catholic bishop urged prayer for the recovery of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who will undergo a surgery for a pinched nerve in her spine to forestall a possible paralysis.

Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez said he is praying for the quick recovery of Arroyo, now Pampanga representative, and called on the faithful to do the same.

“We pray for Congresswoman Arroyo,” Iñiguez said.

According to the medical bulletin of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig, Arroyo, who is facing another plunder complaint, is now undergoing pre-operation procedures for a pinched nerve on her neck.

Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, meanwhile, has welcomed the charges filed against the former president before the Office of the Ombudsman.

“I hope that the truth will come out,” said Pabillo.

Interfaith organization Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR) also said it is a welcome move to hold the solon accountable for possible misdeed.

“We welcome such move of different groups that proves GMA accountability,” said PCPR General Secretary Nardy Sabino.

They, however, expressed hopes that the Ombudsman would act immediately on the case. It was the fourth plunder complaint filed against Arroyo.

“The Ombudsman must act immediately. Otherwise, people will lose their hopes in the administration,” said Sabino.

Party-list group Akbayan yesterday filed another plunder complaint against Arroyo this time for alleged fraudulent disbursements of funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). [CBCPNews]
