SAN JUAN City, Jan. 11, 2013—The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Philippines is holding a Mission Congress on January 26 at the San Juan Gymnasium to culminate the year-long celebration of the ‘Year of Pontifical Mission.’

Themed “Children of God: Called to Radiate the Word of Truth”, the congress aims to celebrate Holy Childhood Day and to intensify awareness among children and youth about the universal mission of the Church.

“In this Year of Faith, we need to continue to fan the flame of mission because Blessed John Paul II reminded us that mission is a ‘concrete indicator of our faith in Christ’ (Redemptoris Missio 11),” PMS stated in an invitation letter.

The whole day event will be attended by around 2,000 attendees particularly grade 5 to high school students, according to PMS.

Ms. J. Baptistine Ralamboarison, Secretary General of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood in Rome, Italy is the guest speaker for the said gathering.

A talk about mission and the four societies of PMS will be given by Fr. Ramil Tapang, SSP.

Episcopal Commission on Mission Chairman and Marawi Bishop Edwin de la Pena will celebrate the closing mass.

There will also be a short program after the mass followed by a play on the life of Filipino teen saint, St. Pedro Calungsod. (Jandel Posion/CBCPNews)
