SAN JUAN City, July 22, 2013—With the World Youth Day activities ongoing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a parish youth ministry here will hold a Taize prayer in solidarity with the international gathering.

The ‘Kadang Dominiko, the parish youth ministry of the Santuario del Sto. Cristo will lead their community in a Taize prayer on July 27, Saturday at the parish Church.

Marlon Antolin of Kadang Dominiko said the prayer is in solidarity with the ongoing festivities of WYD where one member of their group was sent as the official parish representative.

“Rex Russel Tan was sent as the official parish representative where he is part of the ECY-Philippines delegation. Since 1996, the parish has been sending representatives to the international celebration. During the 2011 WYD in Madrid, the parish sent 7 delegates, the biggest so far,” Antolin said.

A hundred young people and lay faithful of the parish are expected to attend the prayer activity.

Before the prayer proper, there will be a short recollection of the past WYD celebrations. Songs from the international festivity will also be played.

Originally called Youth Enlightened by the Spirit or YES, Kadang Dominiko is a WYD offspring.

It was founded by 9 delegates during the April 1995 World Youth Day celebration in Manila as a response to the call of Blessed John Paul II for the youth to become messengers of faith, hope and love. (Jandel Posion)
