QUEZON City, July 22, 2013—Around 50 young people attended a symposium organized by the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Culture (ECC) in response to the call for New Evangelization on July 21, at Christ the King Seminary in Quezon City.
Sr. Mary Anthony Basa, PDDM, ECC’s executive secretary gave the talk on ‘Our Culture of today and CYBER-ETHICS’ as a mind-opener for young people who are greatly influenced by modern technology.
The youth participants were from Jesus and Me (JAM) youth group of Tuklasan Marriage Encounter.
The talk is also a response to Pope Francis’ 1st encyclical letter, “Lumen Fidei” which states that “today, we often tend to consider the only real truth to be that of technology; with what we succeed in building and measuring by our scientific know-how; and in what works and what makes life easier and more comfortable (LF #25).”
Basa created a guideline on how to make proper and good use of the internet by defining the creation of CYBER-ETHICS guide which means: Christ centered, Youth oriented, Build up language and relationship, Enrich the soul, Rediscover the beauty of life—Enlighten the mind, Transform the heart, Heal the wounded and broken, Interpret objectively the negativity, Communicate the truth, and Strengthen faith in God.
The next talk on cyber-ethics will be held in the Diocese of Malolos on July 27 with around 500 expected students from the Immaculate Conception School for boys and the Immaculate Conception School of Malolos for girls as the participants. (Jandel Posion)
