Thousands to join ANCOP’s global walk for scholars

MANILA, August 10, 2011?Around 60,000 participants are expected to join the Couple for Christ’s ANCOP global walk in Metro Manila to raise funds for poor scholars.

The walk aims to raise funds for the education of poor children under the ANCOP Child Sponsorship Program.

Joe Tale, Executive Director and member of CFC International Council lauded ANCOP for making education a priority, saying that the “children, if left uneducated will become tomorrow’s poor.”

ANCOP, acronym for “Answering the Cry of the Poor” is a development program founded by the Couples for Christ to help the poor live decent lives proper to human beings by providing them shelter, education, basic health care and livelihood.

The Walk event will be launched on August 21, 2011 at the SM Mall of Asia, to be replicated in other parts of the Philippines.

Other provinces in the country that will also stage the Walk are La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela, Nueva Viscaya, Quirino, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Cebu, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Basilan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, Davao City and South Cotabato.

The Global Walk has also been staged in countries where CFC members are actively ministering. Canada has been doing the Walk for 5 years, while the United States is in its 2nd year. Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Europe are participating in the Walk this year together with the Philippines.

Ricky Cuenca, Couples for Christ Chairman and former CFC-ANCOP President and CEO said they thought of a Walk instead of the usual Marathon because they want everyone to participate in the cause.

People from all walks of life, whether young or old, CFC members or not, are encouraged to participate in the event, he said.

Participants will have to register and pay the Walk donation of P300 (either through their CFC leaders or friends, or via BDO Savings Account Number 107-020-754-1), go to SM Mall of Asia at 4:00 am on August 21 and start walking at 5:00 am.

CFC Metro Manila’s 12 sectors are expected to field 5,000 walkers each to reach the targeted 60,000 participants.

Among those participating in the global walk include the CFC Family Ministries?Singles for Christ, Youth for Christ, Kids for Christ, Handmaids of the Lord and Servants of the Lord.

Organizers are also tapping parishes, private and public schools and corporations to join the event. (CBCPNews)
