MANILA, March 2, 2013—A Catholic priest is urging young people to join a bible run to raise funds for bible distribution to Filipino families.

Fr. Conegundo Garganta,  executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Youth said that the strength of young people must be shared to others by joining the fun run for a cause.

The “May They Be One” Bible run is one of the projects of the Philippine Bible Society together with the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (ECBA) in its continuing campaign to put 5 million Bibles to 5 million poor Filipino families in 7 years.

Now on its second year, the MTBO bible run is slated on March 9 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

“The Word of God is the spiritual strength of everyone. And the youth needs to hear it. They should join the event for they are part of God’s plan and His promise of salvation. It will actually send a strong message that the youth knows how to give space in their life for the Lord Jesus Christ,” Garganta said.

He said the run is an advantage factor to those young people who will be joining the event.

“It is not just meeting new acquaintances, friends and friendships, but is a way to become healthy and fit. By joining the event, they will be blessed by running for God’s Word and by helping others through sharing,” he added.

Garganta is reminding the youth that God’s Word is integral and important in everyday life.

“By joining, you will not also help yourself become fit, but will be helping other people receive a copy of the Bible, the Word of God,” he furthered.

This year’s run has 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km categories, which may be joined by students for a special rate of P250. Runners who reach the finish line will get National Service Training Program (NSTP) credit certificates for students.

Non-students may join in 3 km and 5 km for P350 and 10 km for P500.

Organizers are expecting 10,000 participants to join this year’s bible run. Last year, some 6,000 runners joined the fund raising event.

Interested participants may contact ECBA at (02) 527-4157 or the PBS Secretariat at (02) 526-7777 loc. 631 or log-on to www.bible.org.ph. (Jandel Posion)
