MANILA, April 4, 2014 – How relevant is Calungsod’s example to young people today? Apparently, his selflessness is a trait that goes to the heart of a lot of modern Pinoy youth’s self-preoccupation, says a priest.

“Youth, nowadays, tend to be selfish, so there is a need to become selfless just like what San Pedro Calungsod teaches us,” said Fr. Ronnie Samaniego, Chaplain of San Pedro Calungsod Chapel located at SM Aura in Taguig City, last March 30.

This selflessness should, Fr. Samaniego explained, “be seen through [our] life and witnessed by the way we live.”

In an interview with YouthPinoy, he also renewed the challenge given to Christians to “answer the call to live a life of service like San Pedro Calungsod’s example.”

After celebrating a novena mass, as part of a series of activities to celebrate the April 2 feast day of the young martyr, the priest called on the faithful to examine whether they are truly living according to the faith.

“We should ask ourselves, whether we are Christians, ‘Are we living the call, just like what San Pedro Calungsod’s life teaches us?’” Fr. Samaniego added.

In between masses, YouthPinoy, a group of online missionaries, also got to sell Pedrito dolls to benefit the Archdiocese of Manila and the Catechetical fund of the Diocese of Pasig.

There also was a free film screening of the movie, “Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir”, produced by HPI Synergy Inc. and Wings Entertainment. (YouthPinoy)
