LEGAZPI City, Oct. 2, 2012—A Catholic bishop reminded the youth ministers that they are chosen by Christ to witness to a life of faith and mission.

Chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth and Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon during his homily at the opening mass of the National Conference for Youth Ministers invited youth minister participants to ponder deeply on the theme of this year’s NCYM gathering: “Youth Ministers Chosen by Christ, living the faith, fruitful in mission.”

“Allow me my dear friends to do some modification on the theme that we have chosen which will help us hopefully in our journey in NCYM. The three parts are: being chosen by Christ, fervent in faith or firm in the faith and being fruitful in mission,” Baylon said.

The Lord is asking us to love one another, Baylon said, urging the youth ministers to respond fervently to the call of God.

“Firm in the faith, the theme of the World Youth Day celebration in Madrid last 2011, but we need to witness the faith. It is born in our hearts and by witnessing other people’s faith growing, our faith also blooms. And through our experiences, we have a strong faith in God,” Baylon added.

The bishop emphasized that to be fruitful in mission, faith must be shared.

Baylon closed his homily by reminding the youth to be fervent in love, firm in faith and fruitful in whatever the youth ministers do in mission. (Jandel Posion)
