MANILA, January 17, 2013—A musical play featuring the life of the first Filipino saint Lorenzo Ruiz will be held at the Bulacan Agricultural State College Gymnasium in San Ildefonso, Bulacan on January 18 at 7:00 in the evening.

Titled “Lorenzo: Pilipino.Martir.Santo”, the musical play is organized by La Juventud Dela Hermandad De San Ildefonso together with the Parish Commission on Youth (PCY) of San Ildefonso.

In a text message, Bryan Java Pranillos, head of Mass Media commission of PCY said the proceeds of the play will fund the scholarship program of the out-of-school youth.

“The idea of doing a musical play for a cause came up last 2011. Then last year, we had a play about our patron saint San Ildefonso. Since then, the musical play became a fund raising project for our scholarship program,” Pranillos said.

Pranillos, who is the technical director of the play, also said that in this Year of Faith they decided to pay tribute to San Lorenzo, being the 1st Filipino Saint.

“We saw that Lorenzo as a boy had intense devotion to God. So we decided that it will be good to feature Lorenzo’s life to the youth in order for them to understand Faith better,” he added.

More than 500 people, mostly students are expected to watch the play.

Organizers cited three reasons why people must watch the play. First, “you will learn lots of facts about our 1st Filipino Saint, San Lorenzo Ruiz; [second] you can help us send our out-of-school youth to school; and [third] you will definitely enjoy the entire production,” they furthered.

Ticket fees range from Php 50.00 for students and Php 100.00 for general admission. (Jandel Posion/CBCPNews)
