MANILA, Sept. 4, 2013—Many young people are set to join the fluvial parade in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary during the 2nd Taal Lake Marian Regatta on September 8 organized by the Archdiocese of Lipa.

Msgr. Alfredo Madlangbayan, this year’s executive committee chairman of the Marian regatta, said that there are already many young people who signed-up as participants for the fluvial parade.

According to Madlangbayan, last year’s regatta hosted only few young people but this year, the archdiocese reached out to many young people inviting them to participate in the Marian event.

“In my parish alone, our youth leaders already signed-up to participate on this wonderful occasion, which is a good sign that the youth are always ready to heed the call of the Church and of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” added Madlangbayan.

He mentioned that those who can join the regatta are young people from ages 14-17 and older, who are capable of following necessary safety precautions.

When asked about what learnings can young people get from joining the event, Madlangbayan stressed that the goals of the festivity aims to deepen awareness, especially among Batangueños of their responsibility to take care of preserving their treasure—the Taal Lake—and to commemorate the birth of the Blessed Mother, Mary.

“We need to protect our precious lake for it is the source of income for the people in coastal areas and is one of the tourist destinations in the province which we are proud of,” Madlangbayan furthered.

The regatta is themed “Through Mother Mary of Lake Taal, Faith and Total Progress for Stewards of God’s Creation.” (Jandel Posion)
