CEBU City, April 26, 2013—Every Friday, as a weekly pilgrimage, Cebuano youth will spend time in the same place St. Pedro Calungsod loved so much – the church, serving in the Holy Mass.

Youth from eight districts of the Archdiocese will gather weekly every 6 o’clock at the San Pedro Calungsod Youth Center (SPCYC) right beside the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral for a “youthful celebration centered on the Holy Eucharist in honor of San Pedro Calungsod.”

According to Marlito Cabigas, member of the Cebu Commission on Youth (COY) core group, it is called ‘Tambayan ni Pedro’ because San Pedro Calungsod’s favourite hang-out was the Holy Mass, since he was a sacristan (altar boy) for much of his life.

An initiative of the COY, the pilgrimage aims to encourage young Catholics to have the same love for the Eucharist as the young Calungsod did.

Online prayer requests

Archbishop-Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal also named the SPCYC as the new ‘tambayan’ of the ‘Barkada ni Pedro’, an online community that aims to promote intercessory prayer, based on a love and service of others as shown by St. Pedro’s example.

Cabigas, one of the organizers of the event, encouraged all the faithful to take part in the weekly gathering, saying, “All the devotees of San Pedro Calungsod, both young ones and once young, are very welcome to participate in this pilgrimage.

‘Barkada ni Pedro’ (www.facebook.com/barkadanipedro) is also open for the prayer requests of those living outside Cebu. [Nirva’ana Ella Delacruz]
