BACOLOD City, Jan. 15, 2013—“Silence might be misconstrued as approval of something that is evil.”
This was what University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos president Fr. Emeterio Buñao, OAR said to explain his vocal opposition to and the university’s stand on Republic Act (RA) 10354 or the RH law, which he articulated in his homily during a recent Eucharistic celebration.
Buñao stressed that the university conforms to the stand of Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra and of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
He strongly said that the law is “disgusting and disappointing” especially when the framers said that the law is a gift of the Congress, the Senate and of Malacañang.
“The RH law is against religious and moral principles taught by the Church,” the priest told the congregation, adding that it is sad to note that the government no longer listens to religious leaders and would rather listen to non-religious advisers who have secular interests and principles.
According to Buñao, the RH law was intended to cut the population of the country, stressing that the said law made immoral acts legal.
“This is a law against human nature and intends to destroy the family and children. As members of the Augustinian Recollects, we are so disappointed and so dismayed at the [ratification] of the law for it destroys the dignity of humanity,” Buñao said.
