Sunday collections for typhoon victims

MANILA, Dec. 7, 2012— Catholic parish churches in different dioceses across the country will conduct a second collection in all Masses this Sunday for the victims of typhoon Pablo.

In the Archdiocese of Manila, Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle requested a second collection to raise more funds to support relief and recovery efforts for thousands of typhoon victims.

Other dioceses like Cubao and Sorsogon are also urging the faithful to help the victims by giving a special offering in their local parishes on Sunday.

In the Archdiocese of Jaro in Iloilo, Archbishop Angel Lagdameo said the second collections in all Masses will be conducted from Dec. 9 to 31.

The funds, they said, will also be used to help the victims restore their livelihoods, and provide materials to rebuild their homes.

Meanwhile, Caritas Manila is sending an initial P1 million for relief efforts in the dioceses of Tandag, Butuan, Mati, and Tagum.

He said they are in close coordination with the different diocesan social action centers in Mindanao to fast track the delivery of relief goods to the affected areas including in the Visayas.

He also said that cash donations may be deposited at Caritas Manila’s BPI Savings Account No. 3063-5357-01; BDO SA 5600-45905; Metrobank SA 175-3-17506954-3 or USD Bank Accounts: BPI no. 3064-0033-55(swift code PNB MPH MM).

Those who are willing to help in cash or check may also deposit their donations to the Caritas Filipinas Foundation, Inc., through the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) with their account number: 4951-0071-08.
