Strong earthquake hits Bohol, neighboring cities

CEBU City, Oct. 15, 2013— A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 occurred near Tagbilaran, Bohol at around 8:12 am, Oct. 15. 

The temblor’s epicenter is 5 km east of Balilihan and 21 km northeast of Tagbilaran, Bohol, according to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. 

Eyewitnesses in Tagbilaran reported receding of water along the coast but Philvocs in an interview downplayed threats of tsunami. 

Successive aftershocks and damages in infrastructures are also reported in neighboring provinces of Bacolod and Negros Occidental.

In Cebu, 4 people were killed when a building collapsed, according to news reports. 

Several buildings and churches are reported to have sustained cracks and various damages not only in Tagbilaran, but also in Cebu and other neighboring provinces. (CBCPNews)
