ANTIPOLO City, Oct. 11, 2012—A diocesan conference on Social Media that is set to take place on October 20 will not only share experiences and insights derived from the 1st Catholic Social Media Summit held last July but would also be a response to the celebration of Blesed Pedro Calungsod’s canonization.

Organized by the diocese of Antipolo, the event titled “Santo na si Pedro, A Diocesan Conference on Social Media, aims not only to introduce Calungsod to the young people of the diocese but also to share insights on social media.

Diocesan youth coordinator Dani Villanueva, in an interview said they take this as an opportunity for the young to experience a canonization rite of a young Filipino saint.

“It is also important that we young people help in the promotion of the life of Pedro Calungsod. It is not every year that a Filipino is elevated to sainthood.  And the event serves as our inspiration from the social media summit,” Villanueva said.

A plenary on social media will be given to attendees in the morning followed by concurrent sessions. Topics to be discussed are videos, games and applications together with images or photography in the internet.

In the afternoon, a mini-play about Calungsod will be presented followed by an infomercial campaign. The event will be culminated by a Holy Eucharist to be celebrated by Antipolo Auxiliary Bishop Francisco De Leon.

Other than the social media summit where Calungsod is presented, the youth commission of the diocese has also prepared a series of campaigns called ‘Project Pedro Calungsod’ for the 2nd Filipino saint, such as Calungsod modules to make him known and an infomercial campaign titled ‘Sino si Pedro?’.

“The infomercial contest is open to schools and parishes that will focus on the topic of promoting Pedro; it will be like advertisements or commercial. Entries will be uploaded in the internet as our help in promoting the soon-to-be saint,” Villanueva furthered.

An estimated 200 youth ministers, religion teachers, catechists, campus ministers and campus journalists will be attending the diocesan conference on social media that will take place in Good Shepherd Center.

The event is organized by the commission on youth together with the social communication commission of the diocese. (Jandel Posion)
