MANILA, June 20, 2013— Participants in an archdiocesan seminar on historic church properties agreed on a set of principles to guide their work preserving and managing heritage structures.

Representatives from different parishes of the Archdiocese of San Fernando took part in the seminar on church heritage preservation, which was held last Monday at the Holy Angel University in Angeles City.

Auxiliary Bishop Pablo David said the seminar, organized by the Archdiocesan Commission on Church Heritage (ACCH), aimed to help priests and parish workers learn to manage old churches and historic properties.

“The undertaking was meant to serve as a venue to consult both clergy and lay leaders of heritage parish communities on drafting the ACCH guidelines and setting up its organizational structure,” David said.

Among the issues tackled included language and translation, religious tourism, tangible and intangible heritage, and archives and museums.

Aside from priests and parish heritage coordinators, a number of seminarians and tourism officers of local government units also attended the seminar.

Resource persons were Prof. Regalado Trota Jose from the UST Archives and National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Fr. Milan Ted Torralba of the CBCP’s Committee for the Cultural Heritage of the Church.

The seminar was also held in cooperation with the Holy Rosary Parish, Holy Angel University Institute for Christian Formation, and the Center for Kapampangan Studies.

The province of Pampanga is home to a number of historic churches that are considered as national treasures. (CBCPNews)
