MANILA, June 9, 2011— Lasallians and pilgrims other provinces will have a chance to see a relic of St. John Baptist de la Salle.
De La Salle University Manila president Br. Narciso Erquiza said the relic of the “principal patron of all teachers of youth,†will arrive in Manila on June 15.
It will be brought to the Marian Quadrangle in DLSU Manila as Erquiza invites people to visit the campus to pray and venerate the relic of St. La Salle.
The activity will be open to all the faithful from 8:30am until 10pm and two separate Masses will be held within the day.
Relics have always been part of the Catholic faith as they represent a divine link between the saints and those who look up to them for guidance and inspiration.
For centuries, miraculous healings have been associated with the relics or even personal possessions of the canonized saints.
The arrival and tour of the relic is one of the highlights of the 100th year celebration of Lasallian presence in the country.
On June 16, the relic will then be toured to different La Salle schools in the country until June 25.
St. La Salle was a French Catholic priest and a pioneer in founding training colleges for teachers, reform schools for delinquents, technical schools and schools for modern languages, arts, and sciences.
His work quickly spread throughout France, and after his death in 1719, continued to spread across the world. In 1900, John Baptist de La Salle was declared a Saint.
In 1950, because of his life and inspirational writings, he was made Patron Saint of all those who work in the field of education. (CBCPNews)
