Pro-lifers hold simultaneous rallies in defense of life

MANILA, MAY 10, 2011?Pro-lifers are staging a prayer rally outside Congress and a caravan for life in Bacolod, both slated at noon today, as peaceful demonstrations of devotion to life and opposition to the passage of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill.

Pro-Life Philippines and Soldiers of Christ Catholic Community will lead the Jericho March Prayer in front of the House of Representatives as a show of support for life and family and of denouncing the legislative measure.

Participants will assemble at St. Peter Parish Church on Commonwealth Avenue at 12:00 noon and start the motorcade at 1:00. The vehicles will circle the route starting from the corner of Commonwealth and around Batasan Road to Congress six times. The seventh round will be traveled on foot.

A program follows the march on the street near the House of Representatives.

Participants are enjoined to wear blue and/or white and to bring drums, cymbals and other such instruments for the celebratory event. Streamers and other signs are welcome as well.

The Jericho March Prayer is only the first activity slated for the resumption of activity at the Lower House. Pro-Life Philippines president Eric Manalang is encouraging civic associations, youth groups and faith-based organizations to plan or take part in similar events as part of the bi-weekly (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) protest activities at the House of Representatives. Caravan for life

Bacolod will be the site of a Caravan for Life against RH Bill at 12:00 noon today. Organized by the Citizens Alliance for the Protection of Human Life (CAPH LIFE) ?a multi-sectoral organization ?together with Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, the motorcade takes off from the Sacred Heart Shrine in Lupit and passes the city’s streets to end at the San Sebastian Cathedral. A Eucharistic celebration will be held right after the motorcade.

There will also be a 10-minute simultaneous ringing of church bells at noon in solidarity with the start of the Manila Jericho March Prayer. (Diana S. Uichanco)
