MANILA, Oct. 3, 2012—A Catholic priest has encouraged the youth to boost their online presence and evangelize the digital world.

“At the start of the year, we planned to go into media mission in whatever form may it be, either in the media, internet or any digital media. But because the year of faith will start on October 21, we thought of making the month of January to be the highlight on explaining the articles of faith by using digital media,” Fr. Jade Licuanan, Archdiocesan Youth Commissioner of Manila said.

Licuanan said the archdiocese came up with activities in digital artwork as a concrete response to the challenge of Pope Benedict XVI last year to the young to make good use of their presence in the digital world.

He noted that there are a lot of young people who are into film making, so why not make use of them to continue this kind of evangelization.

Last Sept. 29, a digital artwork competition that included short films, documentary and poster making was held as part of the annual celebration of the Archdiocesan youth Month.

Themed “Media Fest: A Celebration of Christian Faith’ the event was held at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila.

Licuanan also shared he was surprised that unexpectedly a good number of entries came.

“It was surprising for me to receive lots of entries and because of this, we can continue this kind of contest and hopefully this will make or leave an impression to the young people of going to media evangelization which is a very interesting endeavor,” he furthered.

Also as part of their media evangelization the Archdiocesan Commission on Youth launched their official website www.manilayouth.org. (Emily Lingat/Jandel Posion)
