PPCRV urges Comelec to reveal party-list groups

MANILA, Sept. 7, 2012— The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) called on the Commission on Elections to reveal the party-list groups and nominees for next year’s elections.

Henrietta De Villa, PPCRV chairperson, said the earlier the better for the poll body to disclose the party-list groups so that it will have more time to address other important concerns.

“It’s been a long time and until now the result has not yet been announced and to think the filing of candidacies will already be on October 1 to 5,” de Villa said over Radio Veritas.

The Catholic Church-based poll watchdog said the Comelec has still a lot of things to do to ensure credible and orderly elections in May 2013.

“So it is important for them to have enough time in the printing of ballots and in addressing other matters,” de Villa added.

The PPCRV head is also hoping the Comelec would come out with guidelines on how the party-list groups were selected.

De Villa lamented there are some party-list groups with seats in Congress that do not belong to the marginalized and underrepresented.

“I wish and I’m hoping the Comelec will have a clear guideline in accrediting these groups applying for party-list,” she said. [RL/CBCPNews]
