MANILA, Dec. 24, 2012—As the faithful prepare to mark the solemnities of Christmas and the New Year, a member of the clergy exhorted young people to celebrate meaningfully by actively participating in the Eucharistic celebration.

Naval diocese chancellor Msgr. Hipolito Remandaban III said during this season, young people go to mass because it is part of the way of life and traditions of Filipinos.

“But it is also a challenge for our young people to make this season relevant like, we are celebrating this season not just because of tradition but [because of] the importance of the celebration to us. [We celebrate] the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is His birthday. The celebration is important not just to all of us but to our nation and to our faith,” Remandaban said.

He urged young people, especially those who go to Church but stay outside during the Mass, to be more participative during the celebration.

“What is important is to go inside the Church because the mass is a communion, a community gathering together to pray, and as members of the community we should pray together as one whole community,” Ramandaban explained.

“It is important that there is an active participation in the Mass, in a prayerful atmosphere and to join [actively] in celebrating one of the important celebrations of the Church,” he furthered. (Jandel Posion)
