MANILA, Nov. 13, 2012— A Catholic parish worker was shot and killed Tuesday outside a church in southern Philippine province of Tawi-Tawi, a Catholic priest said.

Fr. Jun Mercado, a missionary of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), identified the victim as a certain Ching Francisco, grade school principal of the Mindanao State University.

According to him, Francisco was shot dead by unidentified assailants after the Mass as people were leaving the church in the capital town of Bongao.

“Earlier, she led the rosary and was the commentator at Mass. She died instantly,” Mercado said in his Facebook page.

The priest added he arrived at the convent around 6pm for an overnight stay “only to be met by a murder” right at the gate of the church’s compound.

“A tragic murder in front of the church,” he said. (RL/CBCPNews)
