MANILA, May 13, 2013 –A Catholic bishop who urged for a parallel manual count this May 2013 election has practiced his right to vote using an automated machine at the Isabelo de los Reyes Elementary School, Tondo, Manila.
Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Social Action, Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Bishop Broderick Pabillo chose to vote though he was not sure if it will be counted, due to lack of review of the machine’s Source Code.
“Ang sinabi naming manual count ay para dapat masigurado ang pagbilang niyan. Ngayon bumoto ako nakalagay dun “CONGRATULATIONS YOUR VOTE HAS BEEN REGISTERED”, di ko alam kung naregister nga, kung mabibilang yung boto ko kasi wala nga tayong Source Code Review,” Pabillo said in an interview.
But despite his doubt, he decided to exercise his right of suffrage.
Meanwhile, reports of several malfunctioning PCOS machines and computer glitches reached the bishop as he visited some precincts in Manila such as the elementary schools of Isabelo de los Reyes, Magat Salamat, T.Y Yangco, Jose Corazon, Gregorio Perfecto High School, among others.
A poll watcher from Gregorio Perfecto High School cited that the estimated ratio of one PCOS machine is equivalent to one thousand voters (1:1000). (Ivee Jean Bañares/SocialActionNews)
