MANILA, Jan. 22, 2011—A continuous oral reading of Scriptures kicks off the week-long nationwide observance of Bible week that goes on from January 24 until January 30.

Dubbed i-proclaim, the ecumenical reading of the bible on January 24 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle will be led by representatives from various churches, non government organizations and government personalities.

i-proclaim is the continuous reading of the entire bible which can be done in 15 minutes or an hour depending on how many people are assigned to read and how long the readings are allotted on each reader.

House Speaker Feliciano R. Belmonte will lead the roster of Bible readers at the opening ceremony which include Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Justice Raoul Victorino, inspirational speaker Bo Sanchez, newscasters Kata Inocencio, Alex Tinsay, Dodie Lacuna and Maloi Salumbides, NCCP/IEMELIF Bishop Nathanael Lazaro; Lighthouse Bible Bishop Reuben Abante; Dr. Dave Sobrepena of Word of Hope; Dr. Buth Belgica of the Lord’s Vineyard, Fr. Archie Guiriba of Shalom; Bishop Rene Mayugba of CBCP-ECBA; Atty. Jose Tale of Couples of Christ; Papuri singer Jonaver Luklukan, multi-awarded composer Jonathan Manalo; Radio DJ Jordan Escusa, members of the clergy, NGOs and sectoral groups.

Meanwhile, Fr. Oscar Alunday, Executive secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission of the Biblical Apostolate, in a letter, has urged in charge of biblical directors in various dioceses to celebrate the bible week meaningfully with activities “that respond to the social concerns of ecological care, family and life values and youth formation.”

Among the proposed biblical activities for the bible week include Bible Enthronement in Families, BECs, Schools, Churches, Institutes, Convents, Houses of Formation, Public Places etc.; Gospel Sharing in homes, campuses and public places; Family Bible Encounter (quiz); Extemporaneous speech (proclamation) of the Word of God on Creation Texts; and Biblialympics (walk – run for the bible, palaro sa biblia).

Alunday also suggested to organizers of Bible Week activities to highlight stewardship of creation and maximize the use of tri-media to promote active participation.

With the theme “May they be one: Becoming One nation in the stewardship of Creation”, the celebration calls on all Filipinos to take an active part in caring for the environment, especially in view of the calamities that hit the country recently. (CBCPNews)
