QUEZON City, April 24, 2013—With barely three weeks to the 2013 midterm elections, the commission on youth of Novaliches diocese organized an electoral formation for the young people as one concrete way to involve them in the upcoming polls.

Titled “Halalan sa Bayan ni Juan,” the electoral formation of the youth is done through a street play which is already implemented in several parishes in the diocese.

According to Roy Villafania, head of the iVote program, the electoral formation program is already ongoing.

“We already have nine theater groups from difference parishes that are implementing the Halalan sa Bayan ni Juan program. The story of the street play is about a typical youth named ‘Juan’ who came to realize the sacredness of his vote as he was confronted by the wrong election practices of traditional politicians and voters,” Villafania said.

The play aims to educate the youth, especially first time voters on the issues and challenges confronting society in the context of the upcoming midterm elections.

Aside from issues and challenges, the formation program further aims to provide audience a perspective on how citizens should decide and vote during the May 13 polls.

“The play captures the importance of collective discernment in the process of voting, guided by the LASER or the lifestyle, action supporters, election conduct and reputation test, as a concrete criteria in choosing the candidates,” Villafania added.

“Huwag magpabulag sa pera. Botanteng may presyo, bayan di aasenso! Magsuri. Manindigan. iVote para sa Kinabukasan!,” Villafania furthered. (Jandel Posion)
