‘Nobody but God knows when the world will end’—CBCP

MANILA, Nov. 23, 2012—Talks about the “End of the World,” “Final Judgment” and “Christ’s Second Coming” have once again surfaced as the dreaded 12-12-12 or 12-21-12 date nears but the Catholic Church maintained that only God knows when it will happen.

In an interview with YouthPinoy, Msgr. Joselito Asis, secretary general of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said the Mayan prediction of the Doom’s Day by December 2012, which is next month, would only prove to be a hoax just like previous predictions that failed.

“Prediction on the end of the world dates back to the early Christian communities because of their anticipation of Christ’s second coming and the final judgment day. It will surely happen but only God knows when,” he said.

But Asis reminded the Catholic Faithful that “Christ’s Second Coming” on “Judgment Day” is a “certain uncertainty,” adding that talks about Doom’s Day should serve as a reminder for people to prepare in meeting the Creator.

“This should serve as a wake-up call for us to prepare ourselves. No one knows when is the exact date and time of Christ’s second coming but it is sure to happen so we always have to be prepared,” he said.

Asis said the Catholic faithful should not dread “Christ’s Second Coming,” and instead shun their sinful ways and straighten their crooked paths to prepare for it.

“Why should we feel afraid of meeting our Creator? Somebody who is not sinful would be ready to face God anytime,” he said.

“This is why we should start to repent and convert just as we are being called to do especially during the season of Advent to prepare ourselves not only for Christ’s first coming in his birth, but also for his return,” the priest added. (YouthPinoy)
