MANILA, Dec. 11, 2012—A musical concert will bring together the country’s top performing artists to raise funds for the ongoing restoration work of the Archdiocese of Manila’s Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Performing during the concert will be high-caliber musical artists, the likes of Noel Cabangon, Isay Alvarez, Robert Sena, 92 AD, Bukas Palad Music Ministry, Hangad Music Ministry, John van De Steen Choir, Koro Ilustrado, Philippine Allstars, The Angelos, and Whiplash Dance Company. The event will also honor great Filipino artists with a lifetime achievement award.

Dubbed “Patron of the Arts,” the benefit concert will be held on December 12 at 7 p.m. at the Meralco Theater.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will grace the event and is expected to deliver inspiring words for the Christmas season.

The musical event also coincides with the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the first year anniversary of Tagle’s installation as Archbishop of Manila.

JesCom executive director Fr. Nono Alfonso, SJ hails the musical concert as a celebration of God’s gift of music and the Filipinos’ inherent musical artistry.

“The concert affirms the Catholic Church’s continuous support of the Arts,” he said. “The innate creativity and talent of Filipinos is God’s gift.”

Organizers hope to raise enough funds from Concert sponsors to help in the ongoing restoration of the Marian Basilica. At least 90 million pesos are needed to fund the restoration project.

Organized by the Jesuit Communications, the “Patron of the Arts” is inspired by the “Royal Variety Show,” an annual Christmas tradition in the United Kingdom where the best entertainment artists of the year perform before the Queen of England and the Royal Family.
