MANILA, June 19, 2013—Around 90 mission directors from all over the country will gather for their general assembly on July 1 to 4, in Dumaguete City.

Themed “The Synod on New Evangelization for the transmission of the Christian Faith: Challenges and Implications for the Mission of the Church,” the 60th general assembly will focus on deepening the understanding of the call for the New Evangelization and its challenges and implication for their work as mission directors and collaborators.

Aside from that, the assembly would also help them learn from each other’s experiences of doing mission animation and finding new methods of fundraising to increase contributions to the solidarity fund of the mission society.

Organized by the Pontifical Mission Society (PMS), activities for the 4-day assembly include workshops, plenary, open forum, group sharing and talks from guest speakers.

The assembly will open on July 1 with a Mass to be celebrated by Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, JCD, administrator of Dumaguete diocese at 6:00 in the evening.

CBCP Episcopal Commission on Mission (ECM) Chairman and Marawi Bishop Edwin de la Peña will celebrate the Mass on July 2.

Speakers are Fr. Socrates Mesiona, MSP, PMS national director and ECM executive secretary, who will give a talk in the morning followed by another talk on the theme by Fr. Francis Gustilo, SDB.

An open forum, group sharing, plenary reporting and orientation for new PMS diocesan directors will be held in the afternoon.

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes, SVD, will celebrate the Mass on the third day. The day’s event include a business meeting in the morning, a tour of Catanduanes and nearby areas in the afternoon and socialization on the evening.

The assembly will culminate with a Mass to be celebrated by Mesiona on July 4. (Jandel Posion)
