DAVAO CITY, Feb. 9, 2015 — Some 750 diocesan priests from 21 dioceses in Mindanao are converging on Davao City for the 39th Diocesan Clergy of Mindanao (DCM) Convention, which runs from Feb. 9 to 11.

With the theme: “DCM: Reflecting on our Ministry of Mercy and Compassion to the Poor,” the convention will culminate on the World Day of the Sick, Feb. 11.

Registration and opening Mass was held at the San Pedro Cathedral Parish, while the sessions are held at the St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary in Catalunan Grande, where many of the participants finished studying Theology.

Aside from the chance to meet their classmates and fellow priests, the delegates are being updated through the talks and input from different speakers, led by the first cardinal of Mindanao, Orlando Cardinal Quevedo from the Archdiocese of Cotabato.

Davao Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, in his circular letter addressed to all parish priests and chaplains of public chapels asked for prayers for the success and fruitfulness of the DCM in the General Intercessions of the Mass from Feb. 1 to 8.

The archbishop also asked the priests to organize activities related to the World Day of the Sick “to highlight and to make this special day very meaningful and fruitful for the sick and for those who care for them.”

It was learned that the gathering was supposed to be hosted by Davao City in 2014, but was deferred due to the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda and the Bohol earthquake in 2013. (John Frances C. Fuentes/CBCPNews)
