MANILA, May 2, 2013— As Filipino voters look forward to the local and national elections on May 13, a day of prayer will be observed next week for peaceful elections.

Taking the lead are the country’s military chaplains who are also calling on the faithful to be one with them in prayer particularly on May 10 at 10:00 in the morning and 10:00 in the evening.

“The Military Ordinariate of the Philippines wishes to enjoin our people not only the uniformed men and women but all our countrymen in a moment of prayer,” said MOP Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak.

“On May 13 we will once again face the crucial challenge of choosing our government leaders. And as Filipino citizens and as Catholics, it is our duty to contribute for a clean, peaceful and honest election,” he said.

Msgr. Joselito Asis, CBCP secretary general, said the CBCP has invited the other bishops to take the same “noble initiative” in their respective dioceses and encouraged the faithful to one in prayer.

The MOP is a diocese, which has a jurisdiction over all military, police and coastguard personnel, their dependents, and the civilian employees of all branches of the armed forces. (CBCPNews)
