CABANATUAN City, Oct. 31, 2012—The Diocese of Cabanatuan held its annual diocesan youth day focusing on Mother Mary.
More than 1300 young people participated in the Marian Youth Day (MYD) held at the Maria Assumpta Seminary Auditorium last October 29.
Themed “Maria, Kaagapay at Kalakbay ng mga Kabataan sa Kabanalan,” the MYD aimed at instilling in the hearts of young people in the diocese a true devotion to the Blessed Mother by knowing her more through the Scriptures, Church traditions and teachings, and her virtues.
A talk about Mary was given in the morning while a Marian Quiz Bee took place in the afternoon.
Diocesan youth Coordinator Joannie Bolisay, said that from the 56 participants for the quiz bee competition, only 21 participants reached the final stage. All winners were from Catholic schools participating in the quiz bee competition.
Resource speaker Bro. Rogelio Suelan, MMHC, discussed on Mary as the best model that man should imitate.
Suelan also expounded on the topics of prayer and penance.
“Prayer is the foundation of life while penance is the sacrifice. Doing responsibilities are acts of penance. As followers of Christ, we are all called to love Mary and follow her examples,” he said.
The event culminated with a holy mass celebrated by Cabanatuan Bishop Sofronio Bancud, who urged the youth to imitate the examples of Saint Pedro Calungsod.
He also challenged the young people in the diocese to follow the courage and obedience of the Blessed Mother. (Jandel Posion)
