Manila archdiocese youth group holds social media summit

MANILA, Sept. 8, 2012—Two months after the holding of a nationwide 1st Catholic Social Media Summit, the Catechetical Foundation of the Archdiocese of Manila (CFAM) Youth Commission has organized its own version of the event.

Roque Palero, Ministry Assistant for CFAM Youth, said one of their projects for this year dedicated to Pedro Calungsod was to give an intensive training on social networking, which YouthPinoy also organized last July.

The CFAM Youth Social Media Summit being held at the Pasig Catholic College started today and ends tomorrow, Sept. 9.

Speakers gracing the two-day event are Fr. Stephen Cuyos, MSC a missionary priest who blogs about his faith and ministry and about the use of new technologies and social media for evangelization, Sky Ortigas of YouthPinoy, Alemberg Ang who will discuss Film and Evangelization, and Martha Vinzons for Social Media and Journalism.

An estimated 300 young people are expected to attend the summit and will become the catechists or bearers of the Good News in using the internet or the social media.

Palero furthered that after the two-day summit, the youth attendees will be called Saint Pedro Calungsod Digital Catechist. These “digital” catechists will continue the task of molding young people when to their dioceses.

The youth leader said school year 2012-2013 has been dedicated by the CFAM Youth to Blessed Pedro Calungsod in conjunction with the celebration of the ‘Year of Faith’.  (Jandel Posion)
