BACOLOD City, Nov. 16, 2015 – The Bacolod Cathedral Parish formally closed the “Year of the Poor” on Nov. 12 with its Rector exhorting the faithful “to leave behind the old practices of corruption” and reminding them that “we need to become ‘a new creation in Christ’ (2 Cor. 5:17).”
At the conclusion of the lecture series on the “Year of the Poor”, Fr. Felix Pasquin, Rector of San Sebastian Cathedral, in his talk titled “Communities of Integrity”, observed that there is “a need to examine our past why at present we are apathetic and indifferent to corruption and abuses.”
Further, Pasquin noted that “we have a past of betrayal by the rich ilustrados who conveniently collaborated with our colonizers and our enemies for the sake of personal gain and shamelessly masqueraded themselves as heroes.”
Towards the end of the talk, the priest stressed that “more than ever we need to form communities of integrity to counter the fetid air of corruption and moral decay in our country.”
During the year, the San Sebastian Cathedral held the lecture series every second Thursday of the month with various speakers sharing their reflections on topics related to the “Year of the Poor.” (Fr. Mickey Cardenas/CBCP News)
