Kilusang 99% to hold Third Academic Forum

MANILA, August 6, 2013—More than 200 participants from at least ten sectors are expected to participate in the Third Academic Forum initiated by the Kilusang 99% Movement (K99) on August 9.

Themed “Talakayang Bayan: Tinig ng 99% – “Kaginhawahan: Nararamdaman ko ba ito?” the forum will be held at the Adamson University in Manila from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The forum aims to discuss and exchange different ideas and aspiration of development from the perspective of K99 sectors; to come up with our (K99) common definition of true and holistic “Development” for all; and to share the result with the official agencies and contribute to the Philippine Development Plan, as well as the general public, especially the 99%.

Participants are Indigenous Peoples, Farmers, Fisherfolk, Women, Workers, Unions, Urban Poor, Religious/Faith-based, and Students/Academics.

The K99 Movement is a group convened by the National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice, and Peace of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference fo the Philippines (CBCP) since 2011.

It consists of 80 multi-sectoral organizations and individuals that believe in promoting the social reform and the calls of the 99% of the society whose voice is marginalized by the corporate and influential 1%.

The K99 Academic Forum serves as a platform for different sectors to share and exchange their perspectives and aspiration on issues and concern of the society. (Yen Ocampo)
