QUEZON City, March 24, 2013—Calling Holy Week the “week that changed the world”, a youth group organized a series of local mission trips starting tomorrow for a “week that could change your life.”

House to house visits and more

Mission Youth Philippines (MYP) will be sending several mission teams, composed of some 15 families and 120 young men and women to Tingloy and Lipa in Batangas for the Holy Week.

According to Gudelia Guerra, an MYP core group member, the mission trips “seek to re-energize Catholic life and foster greater parish involvement.”

The mission trip activities will mainly include house-to-house visits in the barangays to get the mission team members acquainted with the local communities; sharing about the Gospel; catechism and animation of the Holy Week liturgy.

The participants in the mission trip will also assist the local parish priest and find out the residents’ needs for particular sacraments like the sacrament of reconciliation.

Finding meaning

In an interview Guerra said she hopes the experience will be truly personal for each participant.

She added, “When someone discovers God loves me personally, that He is there on the Cross for me, and will die again if I were the only person in this world, this experience has to change your life…This moves us to go out and reach the people and help them to have this same experience.”

The need to find meaning is also a reason why mission week appeals to a lot of young people, according to Guerra.

Four Australians will also take part in the mission trip.

MYP is an apostolate of the Regnum Christi Movement, which works closely with the local ordinary and parishes to train young people to be missionary in orientation. [Nirva’ana Ella Delacruz]
