MANILA, Sept. 13, 2011—Human rights advocates will fast today to press the Government to release all political prisoners in the country and to protest the continued political persecution by alleged members of the State forces.

Girlie Padilla of the Ecumenical Movement of Justice and Peace (EMJP) said in a lightning rally at the EDSA of Camp General Rafael Crame, the Philippine National Police’s main headquarters, the political prisoners incarcerated in different provincial, city and military camps’ jails will also have their own protest action.

To date, there are about 354 political prisoners in the country; most of them are linked to the communist movement.

Padilla said that the PPs will also have their eight-day fasting, which has started today and will end on September 21, the 19th Anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law of Marcos. (Noel Sales Barcelona/CBCPNews)
