MANILA, Nov. 5, 2013— Activist priest Fr. Joe Dizon of the Diocese of Imus has died on Monday night due to complications from diabetes. He was 65.
Dizon passed away at 11:15pm at the National Kidney and Transplant (NKTI) Institute in Quezon City where he had been confined since October 29.
Dizon was diagnosed with diabetes 22 years ago and was on insulin medication since then. He had been in and out of the hospital since 2011 after his health condition deteriorated.
The priest was the lead animator of the Solidarity Philippines, a movement to pro-actively advance the Social Teachings of the Church.
The National Clergy Discernment Group, of which Dizon was also a convenor, said his remains will be brought to the San Roque Cathedral in Caloocan City this afternoon until Thursday.
Inday Reyes of the NCDG Secretariat said that from the Caloocan cathedral, Dizon’s wake will be held at the Bishop’s House grounds in Imus, Cavite.
Dizon is one the church people who actively fought the martial law regime and known to be dedicated fighter for social justice.
In his last days, he was at the forefront of the campaign to abolish the pork barrel system.
Dizon had just celebrated his 40th year in the priesthood last October 15 in Rosario, Cavite in a Mass presided by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle. (CBCPNews)
