ANTIPOLO City, Sept. 11, 2012—The Episcopal Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines invites the faithful to ride their bikes and travel for the rights and welfare of the indigenous peoples who continue to suffer from poverty and development aggression.
Called the “Padyak para sa Katutubo at Kalikasan II” (Pedal for Indigenous Peoples and for Nature 2), the theme of the tour would be “Evangelization and Inculturation”, to be held on October 14, Indigenous Sunday.
The lap would begin at Calapan City, in Mindoro on October 13 and would end in Barangay Manoc-Manoc, Boracay Island in Aklan.
“The objectives of the race would be (1) to raise awareness on the plight of our country’s indigenous peoples and the current situation of our environment; (2) to drum up support for our IP sisters and brothers of Oriental Mindoro facing the threat of mining and other ecological destructions, and to support the installation and occupation of Atis in their ancestral domain in Boracay Island; and (3) to promote biking for a healthy body and for a clean & sustainable environment,” the invitation from the NCIP read.
Around 150 biking enthusiasts from the islands of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, would join the tour for IP and nature. [Noel Sales Barcelona/CBCPNews]
