MANILA, Oct. 3, 2013 —Several social media experts and communication strategists will share their years of media experience during breakout sessions of the Catholic Social Media Summit v2.0 on November 23-24 at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila.

Two of the session speakers, according to organizers are Mr. Edwin Lopez, international marketing manager of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in Asia and the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand and Ms. Noreen Marian Bautista, General Manager for CBS  (Consulting Business Services) for Social Enterprises, a department unit of the BCY Foundation.

Lopez started his career in strategic communications in 1985 as a licensed Dale Carnegie Course Instructor for its courses in public speaking and human relations, executive image and strategic presentations.

He retired from the corporate world in 2001 as senior vice president (SVP) and assistant chief marketing officer of a subsidiary of Prudential of America.

Since then, he has devoted his expertise in strategic communications to spread and preserve the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Aside from working with EWTN, Lopez is currently a board member of TV Maria Philippines, owned by the Archdiocese of Manila; he is also head of the lay commission of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on Social Communications and Mass Media.

He is also a professor at the San Carlos Seminary-Philosophy and Graduate School of Theology Departments. He was one of the judges of the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) 2012-2013.

Bautista, on the other hand, is a Filipino social entrepreneur and the general manager of CBS which focuses on providing professional business support and consulting services for social enterprises looking to scale their ventures.

At 20, she co-founded EcoIngenuity Inc., a social enterprise that aims to raise the competitiveness of Philippine indigenous materials and communities that produce them through global design brands.

The company’s flagship brand is Jacinto & Lirio, a line of statement plant leather bags, journals and gadget accessories made from stylish and sustainable plant leather.

The business won in the Development Challenge Philippines in 2009 and represented the Philippines in the International BID Challenge in the Netherlands. EcoIngenuity Inc. was also a finalist at the Unreasonable Institute’s social enterprise accelerator in Colorado, USA in 2011.

Her work with social enterprise communities fuelled her zeal to catalyze entrepreneurs in order to bridge the wealth inequality in the growing, but unevenly distributed economy of the Philippines.

In 2012, she co-founded SlashIgnite Inc. to pursue this mission.

SlashIgnite Inc. catalyzes the entrepreneurial spirit of the Slash Generation; individuals who value collaboration, interdisciplinary skills and who have a passion to make a positive impact in society (entrepreneur-slash-designer-slash-community worker-slash-etc.) where they helped launch the Filipino crowd funding site www.thesparkproject.com and the online advocacy, EntrepsBuildPH (which is not under the Institute for Social Enterprise Development), to foster a community of social entrepreneurs and innovators in the Philippines.

Bautista took up Bachelor of Science in Management major in Communications Technology and minor in Enterprise Development at Ateneo de Manila University.

She is a fellow at Girltank, a worldwide network of women change-makers and a 2013 associate at United Success, a global community of women entrepreneurs. She is the current secretary of the Global Shapers Manila Hub of the World Economic Forum.

Lopez and Bautista are part of the roster of speakers for the Impact Sessions, also known as breakout sessions during the 1st day of CSMS v2.0.

There will be 16 impact sessions and 3 plenary sessions during the 2-day event.

Msgr. Paul Tighe, secretary of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Social Communications will be the keynote speaker of the said event. (Jandel Posion)
