MANILA, August 4, 2013—A program organized by CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Culture (ECC) was the focus of the monthly formation of high school students in a private institution in Malolos, Bulacan last July 27.
Around 400 grade 7 and 8 students from the Immaculate Conception School for Boys and Immaculate Conception School of Malolos for Girls attended the 2nd series of CYBER-ETHICS as a mind-opener for young people who are greatly influenced by modern technology.
According to ECC’s executive secretary, Sr. Mary Anthony Basa, PDDM, the students—divided into two groups— have participated actively in the discussion on how they see the culture of their generation.
“Based on observation, the students are part of the age of modern technology and gadgets where every single student has a mobile phone and knows how to use the internet. So this program will help them be guided on the proper use of this technology without forgetting their faith and God,” Basa said.
She discussed culture and how lives are affected by modern technology and mass media.
CYBER-ETHICS are guidelines on how to make proper and good use of the internet.
Basa created the program which means: Christ centered, Youth oriented, Build up language and relationship, Enrich the soul, Rediscover the beauty of life—Enlighten the mind, Transform the heart, Heal the wounded and broken, Interpret objectively the negativity, Communicate the truth, and Strengthen faith in God.
A series of talks on the same topic will be held in Cebu on September this year. (Jandel Posion)
