MANILA, Nov. 13, 2013—Days after typhoon ‘Yolanda’ devastated central Philippines, the Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines urged young people to pray for the victims of the recent typhoon.
“Whether we come from a calamity-afflicted area or not, we are all invited to a novena of prayer and charity, a nationwide effort of living our faith through the Eucharist and prayer, works of charity and words of encouragement, a most meaningful way of living the Year of Faith which we are about to culminate,” ECY said in an invitation letter to all youth ministries around the country.
It also encouraged the youth to disseminate the information about praying for the victims of the recent typhoon to their different ministry networks and circles of influence.
Meanwhile, CBCP President Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma in a message of hope has stressed on the resilient spirit of the Filipinos in time of adversity.
“No calamity or natural devastation can quench the fire of our hope,” Palma said highlighting the spirit of the Filipino people in time of hardship.
CBCP declared a nationwide novena of prayer and charity from November 11 to 19 for victims of typhoon Yolanda and the earthquake in central Philippines, which happened a few weeks ago.
Masses and prayers will be offered for the dead and the grieving families they left behind during the same week.
Dioceses and parishes are encouraged to conduct a charity fund collection within the week and have the collection transmitted as soon as possible to bishops in the calamity suffering provinces. (Jandel Posion)
