QUEZON City, June 26, 2013—Bishop Honesto Ongtioco of Cubao diocese called on the faithful to support the World Youth Day (WYD) Rio to Cubao overnight-vigil organized by the diocesan Ministry for Youth Affairs (MYA).

Ongtioco said WYD 2013 Rio to Cubao promises to be a life-changing experience through prayer, catechesis and reflection, cultural performances, worship and inspirational songs, liturgical celebration, and sharing of faith stories. Highlighting the celebration will be a telecast from Rio of Pope Francis’ message to the youth.

“I’m calling on all clergy, religious men and women, directors of schools in the diocese to support this event by promoting this event to communities and encouraging our beloved young people to participate,” Ongtioco added.

Due to different local celebrations being organized in other dioceses and organizations, the diocese will forgo a big celebration similar to what was organized last WYD 2011.

The diocesan celebration is also open to interested participants from outside the diocese. Venue of the celebration will be at the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle Gym on July 27-28 from 4 pm to 8 am the following day.

A live feed from Rio de Janeiro with communication from the official Cubao delegation is being finalized for the live streaming of the overnight vigil with Pope Francis. (Jandel Posion)
