QUEZON CITY, May 16, 2011—The Diocesan Youth Day of Cubao will be echoing the theme of World Youth Day 2011: “Planted and Built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith (Col. 2:7)†on May 21. The Diocesan Youth Day is an event organized by the diocesan youth ministry to gather the young people of the diocese for formation, fellowship and celebration.
This year, the diocesan youth ministry in partnership with Student Catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP) will help gather an estimated 2,000 youth delegates from all parishes, diocesan schools, transparochial organizations, including religious men and women for the event.
According to Mr. Benny Hate, the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, the 2nd DYD is celebrated in connection with the CBCP Year of the Youth (YOTY).
Last July, the CBCP declared the period between December 16, 2010 and the same date of the following year as the CBCP Year of the Youth, which the diocesan primer calls a time for celebration.
“It will be for the Church in the Philippines, a thanksgiving for the wonderful gift of young people and their great contribution as well as potentials; It will be tribute to the youth ministers, especially those within the dioceses and ecclesial youth organizations, who have genuinely responded to the call to serve the young; and Above all, it will be a celebration of a youth ministry that is lived fully and passionately for Christ,†the primer states.
The main highlight of this year’s DYD is the Eucharistic celebration to be presided over by Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco and the veneration of the cross to be followed by confession and Taizé prayer.
The DYD program will include praise and worship, formation and a youth festival of talents.
The celebration will end with the Awards Night for the Ten Outstanding Youth Organizations (TOYO) in the Diocese of Cubao. DYD Cubao will be held at Claret School of Quezon City. The first DYD was held last 2007. (Jandel Posion)
