MANILA, April 24, 2013—The Archdiocesan Discernment Group of Cebu archdiocese is paying tribute to the country’s labor force through a multi-sectoral celebration of Labor Day on May 1.

Also the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, patron saint of laborers, the archdiocesan celebration is being organized as an “expression of solidarity with our brothers and sisters, the workers,” according to a circular by Msgr. Romualdo Kintanar, ADG convenor.

“Our new Holy Father, Pope Francis, has repeated many times his call that we serve the poor. Many of the workers are poor, deprived of human dignity,” he said.

“When all sectors in our society work together to promote human dignity and the integral development of society, we will surely reap wonderful fruits from our collective efforts,” Kintanar said in his letter of invitation sent to various sectors.

Invited to join the celebration are workers in Cebu; Officers and Staff of the Department of Labor and Employment, National Labor Relations Commission and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board; Local Government Leaders; Business people and the officers/members of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mactan Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cebu Business Club, and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and all concerned groups and individuals.

Kintanar also urged the clergy, religious and laity to send representatives to the archdiocesan celebration even as he encouraged parishes far from Cebu to organize their own Labor Day celebration.

The celebration will be highlighted with a concelebrated Mass for the workers at the Sto. Rosario Parish Church in Cebu City, at 8:45 a.m.
