MANILA, August 23, 2013—The Chiro Youth Movement Philippines (Chiro Pilipinas) installed new set of national council on August 18, at the CICM Provincial House in New Manila, Quezon City.

Fr. Antonio Tanchoco, CICM, co-chaplain of Chiro installed the new members of the national council during the mass.

In his homily, Tanchoco reminded the youth leaders that they cannot move if there is only one leader.

“We need everyone in order to bring the good news to the young,” he said.

He added that being a martyr not only means dying physically but can also mean giving up one’s time and space for their fellow young people.

Meanwhile, CICM Provincial Superior Fr. Ramon Caluza, CICM, emphasized to the new leaders to follow Jesus radically.

“To do so, we have to go to the roots of our faith. I believe that Chiro is a movement that desires to be with Jesus,” Caluza said.

He also affirmed the methodologies of the youth movement, that of having “fun with faith.”

Caluza added that faith does not have to be dull but has to be enjoyed.

“You cannot bring the Good News with a long face. Being a former Chiro from Baguio, I realized that we should put joy into our mission to evangelize others. So always promote the community spirit,” he furthered.

The new set of national council leaders are Roland Vera Cruz-Nationa Leader, Hazel Joy Meneses-Assistant National Leader, Christopher Capiral-Secretary General, and Jack Vasallo-Assistant Secretary General.

Committee heads are Bro. Rolly with leaders Zharmaine Cansanay and Emer Ramos as assistants for Finance, Marie Gutierrez with assistant Jonie Molina for Training and Expansion, leaders Ma. Crisol Del Rosario with assistant Russia Vasallo for Spiritual Committee, Badette Felix with leader May Ann Garlan for Social Action, and leader Marie Gutierrez for International Committee.

Regional leaders are Roberto Miguel Sayco and Deogracias Espiritu for North Luzon and Jeffrey Vicente and Princess Roldan for South Luzon.

Chiro Pilipinas is a youth movement that aims to bring the young people closer to Christ through games and fun-filled activities.

Internationally, Chiro is a member organization of FIMCAP (International Federation of Catholic Parochial Youth Movements). In the Philippines, they are one with the Catholic Youth Ministry through the Federation of National Youth Organization (FNYO) of the CBCP-Episcopal Commisison on Youth (CBCP-ECY). (Jandel Posion)
