MANILA, June 10, 2013—In honor of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Catholic Chaplaincy at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) has organized a bloodletting activity for charity patients.
Titled “Dugo Mula sa Puso (A Blood Drive for PGH Charity Patients),” the activity gathered 103 blood donors from various sectors of society—seminarians, priest, lay people from different Catholic organizations, students, policemen and soldiers.
According to organizers, the bloodletting activity which coincided with the celebration of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was spurred by the need for fresh blood for charity patients in PGH.
“Usually, if there are blood drive activities, we can only receive 30 donors which is 30 bags of blood but this time, we had 103 donors which is also equivalent to 103 blood bags,” organizers said.
All blood bags from the activity are free for charity patients. The activity was in coordination with the PGH Blood Bank.
Held last June 7, Friday, at the Federico Martinez Hall, the bloodletting drive started at 8 a.m. and finished at 5 p.m.
