CEBU City, July 17, 2013—A special screening of an indie film will help support a scholarship program for out of school youth—one of the many projects of the Commission on Youth (COY) in the Archdiocese of Cebu.
“Boses”, an award-winning movie that promotes child protection and family values and directed by Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil will be shown at SM City Cebu on August 2 at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Krishna Jacalan, youth leader of COY Cebu, said half of the film’s proceeds will be given to the archdiocesan Youthlinks Training and Assessment Center Inc., for vocational and technical training of out-of-school youths.
“The proceeds of the special screening will help the maintenance and sustainability of Youthlinks and at the same time, of the San Pedro Calungsod Youth Center,” Jacalan said.
Currently, the 21st batch of scholars graduated just recently and there is no estimated number for the next batch of OSY who will avail of the scholarship.
When asked about the partnership with the indie film team, Jacalan stressed that COY-Cebu thinks the story of ‘Boses’ is similar to the story of many OSY of today.
“That is why we would like to extend our help to them through free vocational education in order for them to be equipped with skills for employment once they graduated in Youthlinks,” she added.
Jacalan said Marfil’s team forged partnership with COY-Cebu because they found helping OSY build their future, a noble intention.
Aside from the special screening for a cause on August 2, the movie will be shown at all SM Cinemas, nationwide starting July 31. (Jandel Posion)
