MANILA, Sept. 10, 2012— The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines grieves with Catholics over the death of anti-abortion advocate Sr. Pilar Versoza who died on Sunday at the age of 67.

In a radio interview, CBCP president and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma highlighted the role of Versoza in upholding the sanctity of life.
“Like what they say, we’re all going to die but the sad part if in the first place we have not learned to live. As for Sr. Pilar, she’s gone but we know that she has lived and her life is devoted to the appreciation of life,” Palma told Church-run Radyo Veritas.
The founder of Pro-Life Philippines died from Herniation Syndrome secondary to cerebral bleeding, days before her 68th birthday on September 24.
Versoza suffered aneurysm last Thursday then slipped into a coma. She had been breathing with the aid of an artificial respirator until her death, September 9 at around 4 a.m.
“She lived such a good life of goodness and dedication to God and protecting life, we are grateful for that and we will continue her advocacy,” said Palma. “Even if she’s gone, she will remain in our hearts.”
Versoza’s remains were cremated and taken to the Good Shepherd Convent chapel on Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City last night for a three-day wake.
Interment has been scheduled for September 12 after the 3 p.m. Mass. [CBCPNews]
