MANILA, March 8, 2016— The country’s biggest organized group of Catholic schools has joined in denouncing Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s supposed attempts to “canonize” the Martial Law regime.

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) joined in several groups’ and individuals’ chorus of “never again” to the “harrowing horrors” during the dictatorship of the senator’s late father and namesake.

The group made the statement on Tuesday, supporting the Ateneo community against Marcos’ “willfull distortion of history” and “shameless” denial of the abuses committed during his father’s regime.

“With the same fervor, we cry our hearts’ out, ‘never again!’” CEAP said.

Hundreds of professors and incumbent presidents of Ateneo schools criticized Marcos, a frontrunner in the vice presidential race, who remains unapologetic about his father’s dictatorship.

“We refuse to forget the atrocities committed by the Marcos regime, and we renew our demand that the perpetrators of these crimes be brought to justice,” they said.

As Catholic educators, CEAP affirmed its commitment “to teach the truth” and demand “the same level of introspection” from the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to have

“We encourage our various institutions of learning to assess the quality and the content of our instruction relative to the atrocities of the Marcos regime,” CEAP said.

“It seems that we have been remiss in instilling in the youth’s consciousness about the regime’s brutal savagery. Instead, they have been drowned by the Marcosian snares and the Imeldific lies,” they said.

CEAP is an umbrella organization of 1, 425 Catholic schools, colleges and universities nationwide. (Roy Lagarde/CBCPNews)
