QUEZON City, Jan. 12, 2013—The Teresian Carmelite family in the Philippines is organizing a fun run on February 3 to commemorate the 5th birth centenary of St. Teresa of Avila on March 28, 2015.
Spearheading the event are the National Commission for the Celebration of the Fifth Birth Centenary of St. Teresa of Avila consisting of representatives from the three branches of the Discalced Carmelites; the Friars, the Nuns and the Seculars.
Dubbed as “Takbo para kay Sta. Teresa de Avila” with the tagline “Takbo ko, Dasal Mo”, the fun run will take place within the vicinity of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Shrine Parish in Quezon City.
Organizers said the occasion aims to create an awareness on the person and spirituality of St. Teresa of Jesus, by way of an event that is in vogue and also attractive to the youth, among the general public; and to help raise funds for the other activities of the National Commission for the Celebration of the 5th Birth Centenary of St. Teresa of Jesus and to support the Scholastics Fund of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
‘Takbo Ko, Dasal Mo’ tagline and the event itself give way to a new twist in fun run events. Organizers said that each registrant will be given a prayer request slip with the registration form.
“This will serve as a prayer request to be carried by the participant during the event and will be dropped in a container as each of them reaches the finish line. After the event, the container will be brought within the Church premises to be blessed together with the participants. The prayer requests will then be turned over to the OCD nuns of the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Monastery in Gilmore to be prayed for,” they explained.
The run will start at 6:00 in the morning. Interested participants may register for 3K (3 kilometers run or walk) for Php 300.00 or 5K (5 kilometers run) for Php 350.00. Fees are inclusive of Race bib, Race Singlet and Prayer Request Slip.
Registration venue is at room 202 of St. Joseph Building, National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Doña Juana Rodriguez Avenue in New Manila, Quezon City.
